Nyx is the leader of an unnamed organization of individuals originating from the Distortion Realm which aim to return Giratina to what they believe is its rightful place as the ruler of the universe. She is the true antagonist of Pokémon Insurgence, pulling the strings behind most of the activities of the cults unnoticed.
In the game
Nyx's involvement in the story extends far beyond Adam's original journey to stop the actions of the cults. Originally calling the Distortion Realm home, Nyx and her followers believe that the universe which the player calls home, the "matter universe", was originally meant to be the "antimatter universe". Instead, Nyx and her group were forced to dwell within the antimatter universe due to Giratina losing to Arceus in a battle over the right to rule over the two universes, causing Giratina to be dethroned and sealed away within the Distortion Realm. Living within the Distortion Realm led to the corruption of the appearances of Nyx and everyone else dwelling within the Distortion Realm, which ultimately forced Nyx to act to save her own universe at the price of destroying the matter universe. With this in mind, Nyx would eventually make it her goal to take back the Crystal from Arceus's control and return it to Giratina.
Nyx's first involvement in the player's story is traced back to the creation of the Infernal Cult, where she used her own abilities to push Zenith towards creating the cult and ultimately causing enough strife and discord in the Torren region to force the The Timeless to act. The Infernal Cult's actions would eventually inspire the creation of other cults and the actions carried out by all of them would cause Adam to take it upon himself to stand against the cults and their plots. Adam's strength alone was insufficient, leading to him seeking out assistance from The Timeless. By majority vote, The Timeless agreed to allow Adam to borrow the power of the Crystal, allowing Nyx's plans to proceed forward smoothly.
However, Nyx's plans first started to go awry once Jaern became involved and managed to deceive Adam before she was able to influence Zenith to claim the Crystal first. As a result, the Crystal fell into Jaern's hands and Nyx had to develop a new plan to take the Crystal from Jaern. To further complicate matters, Jaern managed to lose possession of the Crystal during the events at the Jade Tower, creating two new targets for Nyx to target in order to regain the Crystal, now in pieces. To prepare herself to take the Crystal Pieces away from Zenith after he had hopefully obtained them from the other cults, Nyx enlisted the assistance of an amateur street magician disguising himself as an Ancient Oracle to feed Zenith false prophecies and lower his guard upon hearing "foretold" good news.
It is unknown how much direct influence Nyx had in the downfall of Audrey and the Abyssal Cult, however her group's first concrete appearance in the story would be after Kyogre broke free from Audrey's control, where Nyx's underling would muse over events transpiring according to Nyx's plans to "return the Earth to the mirror". As such, one Crystal Piece would pass from Audrey's possession into the hands of Malde. The player's involvement in the battle against the cults at this point would lead to Nyx revising her plan to take the Crystal Pieces from the player, who would presumably become strong enough to defeat the cults for her while still being naïve and weak enough for her to defeat the player on her own.
Jaern would later surprise Nyx by approaching her on his own, revealing that he had researched into her enough to know what she had been doing in the Torren region all this time. However, Nyx was unconcerned by this and showed that she could remove Jaern as a threat to her by simply wiping his memories of their encounter and sending him back to his universe. Nyx also revealed that she could not take the Crystal Piece from Jaern without defeating him first, perhaps indicating that the strength of her Pokémon at the time was not sufficient to defeat Jaern. It is also possible that Nyx had left the strongest of her Pokémon to be used by her subordinates as they did her bidding on Earth, leaving her mostly unprepared for Jaern's sudden arrival within her center of command.
Nyx would next reveal the player as her newest pawn during their endeavors against Zenith, where she would purposefully make the player immune to Zenith's "mind optimization" abilities in order to fill Zenith with enough overconfidence that he would lose to the player. After losing to the player, Nyx bid Zenith and the Infernal Cult farewell from her control by having her hired magician reveal Zenith's role as a pawn all this time while also goading the player to continue collecting the Crystal Pieces in the hopes of stopping her. The player played into her plans further by defeating Persephone and Damian within their Dream Realm, allowing them to obtain a second Crystal Piece and effectively neutralize the Cult of Darkrai as a result.
In Amphitrite City, Nyx set the stage by having one of her subordinates battle and defeat Jaern during a live broadcast, freeing the Crystal Piece from his control and ultimately crushing him by exposing him as the leader of the Sky Cult to the entire Torren region. To bring her plans to their climax, Nyx had Nora kidnapped in order to force the player to bring the remaining Crystal Pieces to her domain. Despite the harm and distress that Nyx had brought to the Torren region and its inhabitants, she demonstrated her humanity by admitting her reluctance in involving the player and their universe in her plans to save her own people. After explaining her own origins to the player and giving them a fair chance to fight for the sake of their own universe, Nyx lost to the player on equal terms. In accordance with the promise made to the player upon losing, Nyx and her people were immediately returned to their own dimension, forbidding them from returning ever again. However, Nyx had succeeded in summoning Giratina from its dwelling place, forcing the player to subdue Giratina in its original form as Nyx's final mark upon the player's story.
