The Cult of Darkrai is a cult interested in obtaining the Legendary Pokémon Darkrai. They are one of five active cults in the Torren region.

In the game

The Cult of Darkrai was formed by Persephone in an attempt to summon Darkrai in a plot for revenge.

The player has yet to face any Darkrai Cultists in battle up to this point in the story, but based on Persephone's use of a Houndoom to incinerate two of her own Grunts, it is very likely that the cultists use Dark-type Pokémon. The cult is described as being the most mysterious, as it is known that they seek to obtain Darkrai, but it is completely unknown what they intend to do with it. The cult has succeeded in summoning Darkrai at least two different times; however, it appears unwilling to join their cause each time.

The Cult of Darkrai has yet to try and target any major locations in the overworld, but the cult did kidnap the protagonist at the very beginning of the game in order to erase their memories in exchange for Jaern sparing their base from his wrath. When Persephone fails to eliminate the player, Jaern he assigns her recapture the player, threatening to raid and dismantle the Cult of Darkrai if she fails to do so, prompting her to seek out and deal with the player once again.

The player later encounters the Cult of Darkrai in Selene City, where they're blocking the Gym from access. Once the player defeats the cultist blocking the way, they see Persephone at the entrance discussing Darkrai with her sister, Diana, convinced she has encountered the mythical Pokémon lately; unfortunately for her, Diana is oblivious to anything going on. Diana and Persephone then notice the player and Persephone initiates a battle. After she is defeated, she storms off discouraged, yet determined to capture you once she has sufficient resources.

During a brief cutscene during the climb up Mount Rose, we see Persephone spying on Diana and her boyfriend, Calreath. Coming to the conclusion Darkrai is following her Cresselia, she eventually confronts her sister during the siege on the Infernal Base, getting them all imprisoned. After the player defeats the Infernal Cult, Persephone leads the player to an imprisoned Diana and steals her Cresselia before leaving with "leverage" on Darkrai.

Trivia

- The Cult of Darkrai holds the record for the least battled cult in Pokémon Insurgence, with only four battles: one against regular a Darkrai cultist and three battles against Persephone.
