One of the crazy cool new features in Pokemon Insurgence is the plethora of new, custom Mega Pokemon! Some of them are returning from Zeta/Omicron, as well as all of them from X/Y. Let's have a look at them!

Not all of the new Mega Evolutions have been released yet; this will be updated as time goes on.

This mega doesn't have a lot of versatility in its optimal set, but it truly excels as a sun sweeper/wall-breaker. Under sun it does an absolutely INSANE amount of damage with eruption, and 125 Speed isn't anything to scoff at either. Though it may not be the best Mega Evolution objectively, it gets above average coverage and a hell of a lot of damage.

Here's a couple of calculations just to show the raw power of this Mega Evolution.

252+ SpA Mega Typhlosion Eruption (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Eviolite Chansey in Sun: 301-355 (42.7 - 50.4%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO

252+ SpA Mega Typhlosion Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Milotic: 216-256 (54.8 - 64.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

All in all, Mega Typhlosion is a decent sweeper/wall-breaker that thrives under sun, but has a lot of weaknesses and needs a lot of support to clean up teams with Hubris. That being said, it's a volatile threat that can just ruin teams when left unchecked by blowing up and uncontrollably erupting on your opponent's Pokémon, which makes it awesome in terms of flavour.

Thanks to its tremendous typing and ridiculous bulk, Mega Meganium can put a stop to threats like Garchomp, Dragonite, Breloom, Mega Crawdaunt, Mega Cacturne, and Keldeo along with quite a few others. It also has great utility with its ability, Magic Bounce. In a metagame influenced greatly by hazards (such as Spikes, Stealth Rock, Sticky Web, etc.) keeping them off of the field is one of the most important tasks to a competitive battler, and Magic Bounce helps keep a player's side clean. This ability will also put a stop to annoying Pokémon like Sableye from carrying out their shenanigans, as Magic Bounce also bounces back status attacks and Taunt. Unlike other Magic Bounce users (such as Espeon & Xatu) it has the perfect typing and bulk to make use of this ability. Unfortunately it has a subpar support movepool with only a few viable options (Aromatherapy, Leech Seed, and Dragon Tail). Not only that, Poison moves makes quick work of it, due to the massive quadruple weakness.

Overall this is a very good Pokémon that can support teams tremendously with its bulky and ability to deny hazards.

Mega Feraligatr is a ferocious sweeper, especially when used under rain. To give players an idea of just how powerful this Pokémon is:

+2 252+ Atk Tough Claws Feraligatr Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro in Rain: 219-258 (55.5 - 65.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

It has the ability to 2HKO one of its best counters after one Swords Dance under the rain. It is almost impossible to revenge kill considering its Tough Claws boosted Aqua Jet which has priority over other moves. It can also function well as a Dragon Dance sweeper but it already gained a speed boost with the Mega Evolution so, in general, the Swords Dance set is better.

Although Mega Feraligtr is a beast, there are counters to it. Jellicent is immune to Water-type attacks with its ability Water Absorb, is immune to Superpower thanks to its Ghost typing, and doesn't really mind taking an Ice Punch. It can respond by crippling it with a Will-O-Wisp, while only being afraid if Mega Feraligatr has Crunch. Chesnaught can counter variants without Ice Punch. Vaporeon is also immune to the Water-type attacks and doesn't take much damage from any of its coverage moves either.

Another extremely dangerous Mega Evolution, Mega Bisharp, is featured in this game.

At first glance the stats of Mega Bisharp aren't too terrifying by Mega Evolution standards. In fact, with a Life Orb regular Bisharp does quite a bit more damage then its Mega Evolution. Mega Bisharp would much rather have a defensive boost over a speed boost since its main attacking move, Sucker Punch, has priority anyways. So then why is Mega Bisharp considered so dangerous? The answer lies in the ability Moxie. Mega Bisharp is easily able to come in and finish off a threat with Sucker Punch, earn a Moxie boost, and then basically breeze past entire teams, gaining an attack boost after each successive kill. It can even switch into a Defog before Mega-evolving, nabbing the Defiant boost and preferably the Moxie boost as well, turning it into a sweeping machine capable of dismantling teams in an instant.

The best counter used to be Skarmory as it could take a Brick Break easily and resisted Mega Bisharp's moves that receive same-type attack bonuses, but now that Steel no longer resists Dark in Generation 6, which Insurgence uses the mechanics of, Mega Bisharp can easily dispatch of it with a boosted Knock Off. The player's best bet is to use Scarfed Fighting-types or those with Mach Punch/Vacuum Wave, such as Conkeldurr or Lucario. That, or other powerful revenge killers. With the buffs its regular forme received in the new generation, Mega Bisharp is a terrifying foe indeed.

thesuzerain gave Mega Steelix a real gem in the ability Foundry that Steelix really needed to be a useful Pokémon. With its Mega Evolution Steelix becomes an offensive threat, whereas before it was just a sitting duck with high defenses. Steel/Fire is a great defensive typing, resisting many common attacking types such as Flying, Ice and Fairy, while only having weaknesses to Fighting, Water and an unfortunate quadruple Ground weakness. It now has a STAB Fire-type move in Stone Edge that becomes very powerful with the boost from Foundry, but the main reason to use Mega Steelix would be to abuse the ability to lay Fire-type Stealth Rocks. With this fiery entry hazard Pokémon like Forretress, Ferrothorn, Genesect, and Scizor all lose 50% of their health on the switch-in while Aegislash, Venusaur and many others lose 25%. Additionally, it is possible to set up both Fire-type and Rock-type Stealth Rocks simultaneously.

With all that said, Mega Steelix is definitely not without its flaws. It really needed a Special Defense increase, but instead it actually decreased by 10. However, the fact that most Ground and Fighting moves are physical helps, which means it only have to watch out for Water moves especially. It also preferred to have a lower speed to bring its best Steel move Gyro Ball to its full potential. It is an easy kill for most special attackers, and while it does have decent Attack, it's just not enough to bring down some of the physical walls such as Hippowdon.

Bottom Line: Mega Steelix is a very viable Mega Pokémon with its ability, and can be a great addition to the team if you're looking for a partner to Dragon- or Fairy-type Pokémon.

Mega Cacturne

With great mixed attacking stats and Speed that is patched up nicely with Speed Boost, this thing becomes SCARY. It also gets great moves like Seed Bomb, Sucker Punch, Giga Drain, Drain Punch, etc. to abuse those amazing stats. In addition, it also receives Swords Dance AND Nasty Plot to boost those attacking stats to frightening levels. As far as stopping it goes, Mega Mawile completely shuts it down, resisting any of its coverage moves and can decimate it with Play Rough. With the right support, Mega Cacturne might just astonish players with its sweeping capabilities.

Mega Golurk

623 1.png

Type Ground/Ghost
Ability Sheer Force

  • Minimum stats are calculated with 0 EVs, IVs of 0, and a hindering nature, if applicable.
  • Maximum stats are calculated with 252 EVs, IVs of 31, and a helpful nature, if applicable.

Mega Golurk is the definition of a wall-breaker as it receives an insane 100 point increase to its Attack Stat, making it a monstrous Physical attacker notably thanks to a STAB Earthquake. Sheer Force also powers up moves such as Thunder Punch and Ice Punch, which can cover many of Golurk's weaknesses. Golurk also receives a much needed 30 point increase in speed which, unlike before, makes Golurk a more formidable sweeper.

If running Shadow Punch, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, and Earthquake, it 2HKOs almost every Pokémon in the game and 3HKOs all Pokémon in the game. Here are some calculations to show its power:

252+ Atk Sheer Force Golurk Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Hippowdon: 230-272 (54.7 - 64.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Golurk Shadow Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 222-264 (56.3 - 67%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Sheer Force Golurk Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Skarmory: 206-244 (61.6 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

It takes down the biggest defensive behemoths in existence. The only Pokémon that can generally take two hits and live to tell the tale are physically defensive Suicune and Porygon2 holding an Eviolite. Although its power is ridiculous, it is very easy to revenge kill due to its mediocre speed stat.

Mega Dugtrio

  • Minimum stats are calculated with 0 EVs, IVs of 0, and a hindering nature, if applicable.
  • Maximum stats are calculated with 252 EVs, IVs of 31, and a helpful nature, if applicable.

Mega Dugtrio receives a whopping 100 point increase in its base Attack stat when it Mega Evolves with no other stat increases. However, with its frailty, it's still quite difficult to put that to good use. It can utilize Dugrtrio's Arena Trap ability before mega-evolving in order to effectively trap pokemon into taking a base 180 attack STAB earthquake.

Mega Crawdaunt

Now having decent mixed bulk and speed, Mega Crawdaunt tears apart teams like they're made of paper. 160 Attack compounded with STAB-Adaptability boosted Crabhammer and Knock Off is incredibly powerful, considering its great type synergy. Only a few Pokémon resist them and most of them couldn't live one even with the resistance. It can either use Swords Dance to push its already great Attack into the sky and use Aqua Jet or boost its decent Speed with Dragon Dance. Not even priority can net the opponent a surefire kill, as it also has Aqua Jet in its fairly colorful arsenal. Its checks include Tangrowth, Chesnaught, Mega Meganium, and Mega Milotic, but the best way to beat Mega Crawdaunt is to prevent it from setting up.

  • Maximum stats are calculated with 252 EVs, IVs of 31, and a helpful nature, if applicable.

Milotic's Mega Evolution was designed with the intent to add a different spin on a defensive Mega Pokémon. With Mega Milotic's ability to deal damage whenever it is hit by a special attack in addition to its access to recovery moves such as Recover and Refresh, it is able to effectively make switching in and taking hits more costly to the opponent. Its base stats were higher originally, but because Mega Milotic proved to be quite powerful both offensively and defensively, it was given a lower stat increase upon Mega Evolving. thesuzerain blessed this Pokémon with amazing defensive typing as well with 7 resistances, 1 immunity, and only 3 weaknesses, making it a great stop to common threats such as Scizor, Volcarona, Mega Lucario, Crawdaunt, Kingdra, and Hydreigon among others. All of these factors make it one of the best walls in the game.

Eevee's Mega Evolution takes the Protean ability up to a new level with its ability. Depending on the moves it uses, it changes into another Eevee forme complete with type, stats and ability. For example, if it changes into Flareon, it does get Flash Fire. However, if said Flareon uses a Water-type move, it will change into Vaporeon.

Through the use of a Move Tutor, Eevee's movepool has been expanded to make use of this Mega Evolution, it gains Flare Blitz, Hydro Pump, Thunderbolt and so on in order to change into every Eeveelution effectively.

Marowak's mother comes back to fight with its child in its new Mega Evolution! It gains Parental Bond and a major boost to its Attack, effectively having 234 Base Attack, with the added benefit of breaking Substitutes. Its defenses also gain a small boost, and the added Ghost-type gives it even more resistances, including an always useful immunity to Fighting-type moves. It's a pretty big threat as an stall-breaker but its speed cripples it, being one of the slowest Pokémon, so revenge killing it isn't difficult. This Pokémon works very well in a Trick Room team. Outside of Trick Room it is completely outclassed by Mega Golurk, but it's extremely potent in its niche.

Having an amazing 150 physical bulk, alongside the equally powerful 150 Attack and decent 100 Speed, makes Mega Donphan a formidable opponent. The ability "Irrelephant" makes Donphan ignore immunities, which allows its Earthquakes to hit threats like Talonflame or Skarmory for super effective damage. It's also an amazing pun. With this, only Bug- and Grass-types resist Mega Donphan's STAB Ground-type moves, allowing it to free up its movepool for other coverage or utility moves. Unfortunately, Mega Donphan is cursed with weaknesses to two common types which are Water and Ice. Combined with its mediocre special bulk and lack of recovery, this makes it somewhat easy to revenge kill.

In Insurgence with an expanded movepool to accommodate for its new ability, Spectral Jaws, Mega Girafarig is a decent choice for a Mega Evolution. Base 150 Special Attack ensures that it hits incredibly hard even without boosts. Combined with its biting moves such as a 104 base power Crunch and 85 base power Elemental Fangs, Mega Girafarig suddenly doesn't look so harmless anymore, despite its regular forme. 70/95/95 bulk is also decent, letting it tank things like Life Orb Sheer Force Landorus' Earth Power, Choice Band Azumarill's Play Rough, and even Life Orb Bisharp's Sucker Punch with a 93.6% chance to survive! Unfortunately, Mega Girafarig is cursed with a medicore Speed, as well as a lack of ways to boost its Special Attack.
