In Pokémon Insurgence, the player is able to complete their journey without needing to teach their Pokémon HMs. This is achieved through two separate replacement methods. The first method features Key Items which serve as a replacement for the HM in question. The second method features a list of certain moves which can be used in place of the attack that previously would use the HM's effect outside of battle. These moves are obtainable through both TMs and by leveling up certain Pokémon. To prevent the player from potentially reaching an impasse during a challenge run, HMs that are essential for storyline progression will always be available via Key Item.
Cut
- As of 1.2.5, there are no known replacements for Cut. There is no point in the game where Cut can be used as a field move.
- Shade Forest
Fly
- As of 1.1, the Rocket Boots have been replaced by the PikaTaxi. Those who had the Rocket Boots prior to 1.1 will get a free VIP Ticket, allowing unlimited free rides.
- Pikapad
Strength
The first Gym Badge is required to use Strength or Strength replacements in the field.
Rock Smash
In Insurgence, Rock Smash operates using a slightly different system than encountered in the core series of games. When breaking rocks, the player has a 50% chance of encountering nothing inside of the rock, a 25% chance of finding a Pokémon or a 25% chance of obtaining an item from the rock.

Pokémon
The level of Pokémon encountered while smashing rocks varies depending on the level of the Pokémon that uses Rock Smash. If the Rock Smash user's level is greater than 5, then the Pokémon that appears will be at a level ranging from X-3 to X+1, where X is the Rock Smash user's level. If the Pokémon using Rock Smash is at a level less than 6, then the Pokémon that appears will always be encountered at level 5.
