Catching Tips

  • Reduce health to red (skip quick ball; Regigigas's base catch rate makes qyick balls nearly pointless)
  • Inflict paralysis or sleep on Regigigas (both can be caused by moves, sleep can also be inflicted by snore balls)
  • Once health has been reduced to red, and status inflicted, switch to a pokemon that can tank physical hits (Example: Steelix, especially with Curse)
  • Useful balls: Snore, Ancient, Dusk, Timer, and potentially Heavy.

Catching Tips (In-depth)

  • A lot of standard catching strategies apply to Regigigas.
  • As usual, it is prudent to reduce Regigigas's health to red, as it makes catching a legendary pokemon slightly less painful.
  • Status effects increase the chance of capture; the asleep and frozen statuses increase catch rate more than the others. However, given that there is no freeze status move equivalent of thunder wave or hypnosis, the frozen status can only be inflicted as a secondary effect of a damaging move, such as ice beam. This makes it much harder to inflict, and thus it is not recommended to rely on the frozen status. Damaging statuses, burn and poisoned, put a time limit on the player's ability to catch Regigigas, as they will kill it if the player doesn't catch it in time.
  • Continuing off of the point above, the most reliable status effects to use to make capture easier are paralysis and sleep. Sleep increases catch rate more, but is slightly harder to inflict and must be reapplied as necessary (Edit: Snore balls can be used to inflict a one-turn sleep, so it is much easier to apply). Paralysis stays on Regigigas the whole battle, but doesn't increase catch rate as much.
  • Most effective balls to use: snore balls (to inflict the asleep status), ancient balls (much higher catch rate on legendaries than ultra balls), timer balls (once the battle starts to drag on), dusk balls (as the battle is in a cave, the dusk ball will always perform at its highest effectiveness), and potentially heavy balls (need to check formula of heavy ball to determine if it's catch rate on Regigigas will be higher than ultra balls).
