Ethereal Shroud is an ability exclusive to Pokémon Insurgence. It is the signature Ability of Mega Gothitelle.
Effect
In battle
Ethereal Shroud causes the user to gain Ghost-type-associated immunities and resistances, effectively giving them three defensive types in the event that the user already possesses a primary type and a secondary type. Ethereal Shroud does not give Ghost-type moves a damage increase via same-type attack bonus, and it also does not give the user weaknesses associated with its new Ghost typing.
Pokémon with the Abilities Scrappy, Mold Breaker, Teravolt, or Turboblaze are able to bypass Ethereal Shroud using Fighting-type and Normal-type moves. Using Foresight or Odor Sleuth also allows Fighting-type and Normal-type moves to bypass Ethereal Shroud. Trick-or-Treat and Forest's Curse will both fail when used against Pokémon with Ethereal Shroud. Soak, Dragonify, and Medusa Ray will not fail, however they also will not negate the Ghost-type-associated immunities and resistances gained from Ethereal Shroud.
Outside of battle
Ethereal Shroud has no effect outside of battle.
